Start client work

Before you write the site, hear how the work is actually described.

A website project begins with a sitemap request. Underneath it are different ideas about the customer, the offer, and what makes the work matter. Send a few fixed voice questions; receive the transcript under each one.

Questions to begin with.

  1. 01When someone asks what you do, where do you usually begin?
  2. 02What do you wish a new customer understood sooner?
  3. 03Which part of the work is hardest to explain briefly?
  4. 04What do people tend to get wrong about you?
  5. 05What should still feel true after the site changes?

Question

What do people tend to get wrong about you?

They see the finished space and assume we are decorators. Most of the work happens much earlier, when we are helping someone decide how they want to live in it.

Use it for

Use the responses as source material for discovery, messaging workshops, and early copy directions.

Not for

This helps surface raw language and context. It is not a substitute for brand strategy or a decision about positioning.
